A Mother: “I feel really well informed and equipped going into our labor. Christine did a fantastic job to covering as much materials as possible, without being superficial in the way we discussed the subjects.”
A Father: “The class started a lot of conversations with my partner that needed to happen. It has made us feel closer.” A Mother: “Christine was a great facilitator and really knew how to engage us in class.” I have a lifelong passion for everything having to do with birth, newborns and the formation of a new family. For the last 20 years I have explored this wonderful field professionally, from practicing as a doctor in a NICU in my native Germany, internships with a homebirth midwife, a holistic obstetric clinic, and a baby friendly hospital, and researching “Kangaroo care for prematurely born infants” (Skin to Skin contact). My interest in helping prematurely born infants and their families led me to Boston and learn ”Individualized Developmental Care of Prematurely Born Infants”, and become certified as a NIDCAP Trainer for health professionals working in this field. I have supported prematurely born infants and their parents during NICU stays and in their homes.
During my first pregnancy in 2002, I searched for a different type of childbirth education which would prepare me for all the sensations and emotions which can arise during normal labor and birth. I had learned from witnessing many births that modern knowledge about birth physiology and possible medical interventions has only limited use for a woman in the middle of labor. I was fortunate to find a “Birthing From Within” class nearby. This class was extremely valuable in my own journey of birthing and becoming a mother. After spending some time at home with my two boys, I trained as “Birthing From Within” Childbirth Mentor and Doula. In this work, I encountered a large number of women and birth partners who were wounded and hurt in their birth experience despite all the preparations they had made. As a result, I expanded my training and am excited to offer Birth Story Listening for new mothers and their partners and also other birth attendants. In just one session, I have seen major shifts in the ways in which a woman views the experience surrounding birth as well as her own birth as a new mother. As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant I offer Breastfeeding Classes and Individualized Breastfeeding Support in your home. |
